Swim Team Jobs

The following is a list of the jobs required at most meets. If you think your child will be a "B" swimmer, please sign up to work at "B" meets. All parents are capable of doing all jobs; however, some jobs require special training. If you sign up for a job that requires training, you are also committing to training time.

Please print and complete the work assignment form which is part of the Registration Packet on the Registration Page. Indicate the dates and jobs that you would prefer to work. We will do our best to accommodate your requests, but thank you in advance for your flexibility. This form should be completed as part of the Registration process. Any family that does not mail in a completed work assignment form by the deadline will be assigned the required number of jobs from the remaining available jobs.

If you are assigned to work at Time Trials (May 22, 2010), or the meets on June 16, 2010 or June 17, 2010, there will be a work schedule posted at Spring Practice and you will be notified by phone.

Once the jobs have been assigned, each person is expected to be on the job at the correct time. If you cannot work your scheduled job, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure someone is there to work for you. You can arrange to switch an assignment with someone else or hire a substitute worker for $25.00 per meet. A list of substitute workers will be listed on the website.

There will be a check-in person at all meets. Please check-in with this person 15 minutes before the start of the meet so that you receive credit for working.

Computer Desk Worker

We need people who are good with computers to work the desk at home meets. This job does require some special training; therefore, you would do this job for all of your job assignments. Call xxx (if you would like to help in this capacity. HOME MEETS ONLY.

Desk Workers

Located at the tables under the white canopy. Jobs include sorting paperwork, putting labels on ribbons and filing ribbons. Desk workers are needed at both HOME AND AWAY MEETS. At away meets this job may involve staying a few minutes after the meet finishes because there is often a short delay between the race and the labels being printed.

Keeper of the Team Canopies

We are looking for two or three responsible, strong volunteers to be in charge of the WCSC team canopies. This job involves transporting, setting up and taking down three pop-up canopies at all HOME meets, the All-City Meet, League Meet, Battle of the Ages, AquaPentathalon, and the Woodlands Invitational. A truck or large SUV is required for transporting.

Snack Bar Worker/Candy Sales

Located near the entrance of the pool. Help prepare and sell food and candy during the meet. HOME MEETS ONLY.

Home Meet Hospitality

Primary job is to serve complimentary hot and cold beverages to all coaches and workers at home meets. Will also help out in the snack as needed. HOME MEETS ONLY.

Timer

Located at the finish of each lane during the meet. Use a stopwatch to clock a swimmer's time. Must be in your chair and ready to time ten minutes before the start of the meet. HOME AND AWAY MEETS.

Recorder

Located at the finish of each lane during the meet. Write down the name of the swimmer and the three times captured by timers at each lane. Must be in your chair and ready to time ten minutes before the start of the meet. HOME AND AWAY MEETS.

Runner

Pick up the time slips from the recorder at each lane and bring the slips to the computer desk. HOME MEETS ONLY.

Starter

Start the swimmers and timers for each race. This job is one of the meet officials. Special training is required. HOME MEETS ONLY.

Stroke and Turn

Watch swimmers as they swim to make sure they do the required starts, strokes and turns according to USS rules. This job is one of the meet officials. Special training is required. HOME AND AWAY MEETS.

Check-In Person

Call all workers signed-up for a particular meet two days before the meet and remind them of their commitment. Report to Work Assignment Coordinator any workers unable to fulfill their commitment. Check-in all ten minutes before the start of the meet and assign floaters as needed. HOME AND AWAY MEETS. This is a perfect job for single parents or parents of small children who have a hard time working during the meet. Priority will be given to people who fall into this category.
